Conservatory Window Film

Conservatories are great addition to any home offering an additional room in a cost effective way. Conservatory window films help prevent problems with overheating and reduce the glare from the sun.
Conservatory roof with sunlight glaring though

Is this like your conservatory roof?
Excessive glare is a huge issue causing eye strain and making the space unusable.

People also want to have a link to the outside world which they can use all year round sadly this is often not the case because of the nature of the beast, its predominately glazing.

Conservatories tend to overheat and suffer from excessive glare and the expensive wicker and rattan furnishings fades at a rapid rate due to the high levels of UVA & UVB passing through the glass.

Conservatory with window blinds to block sunlight

"Sitting in a hot box!"
Lost connection with the outside world, hot due to window dressings absorbing so much heat.

There is also the danger of skin cancer if prolonged usage occurs. We have sadly met so many people who are desperate to use their conservatories but sadly are unable after trying different methods of shading themselves.

We have seen patio umbrellas, umbrellas and peaked caps next to each chair and various fabric materials hanging from the roof which catch dust and insects; but the worst and most desperate person painted the roof with emulsion which then went mouldy effectively ruining their conservatory.

We have found that conservatories with both blinds and air conditioning are also struggling to be usable plus the running costs of A/C systems are very expensive, pump out CO2 and often can’t even cope. "Why have a room which is mainly glazing for the sole reason to connect with the outside then cover the windows with blinds so they are effectively sitting in a room with no view out what so ever".

Blinds are fine as a window dressing but don't control the suns energy

We would estimate that over 75% of conservatories we get asked to visit are suffering from heat, glare and fading issues already have window or roof blinds installed and the few that have air conditioning fitted are overwhelmed by the heat and can’t cope.

Window coverings can also make your property look run down and almost vacant when they are constantly closed day after day.

  • Instantly smarter by appearance and still private for the users

One comment we hear a lot about roof blinds is that they are difficult to clean they’re are a graveyard for dead insects that have been trapped behind them but not before driving the owner mad for a few hours before they die.

Blinds create addtional surfaces for dust to collect and make window sills unusable for plants or ornaments and even when they are retracted they still can partially block your view because they are bundled into the corners.

The Solution

Now the good news there is a product which can turn this often unusable space into the haven you always hoped for with no running costs and a life span of up to 25 years and costs a lot less than quality blinds to have installed...it’s a solar control window film.

Feel & see the difference with Conservatory Window Films. Reduced heat and glare and protection from UVs and most importantly a reconnection with the outside world.

Solar Control Window Films do like it says on the tin; it controls the amount of solar energy passing through your glazing to a level you want.

There are many colours and shades available to tailor it for your needs what ever your particular problem whether it’s Glare, Heat gain or Fading even privacy.

This shows how a solar control film as fitted to this roof turns it into a light and comfortable and usable space that can be enjoyed all year round.

There are even window films now which are designed to retain the heat in the winter as well as control the sun in summer reducing heat loss through your glazing by as much as 33% so in a room which is predominately glass you really do feel a difference in the space and your wallet.

This conservatory is used as a dining room and links the living area to the kitchen and is an integral part of the house layout. It was making both rooms too hot & even with air conditioning was unusable. The glare made it impossible to eat at the table whenever the sun came out. (Shown here before films fitted)

  • Window films makes a smart addition to the conservatory providing protection from the suns glare and add private for the family

More conservatories which are now part of the home structure where they are used to link two rooms together or used as a fully functioning kitchen, living, dining or office space making them more than an occasional room.

Metalux Plus is designed for polycarbonate roofing and is designed from concept for plastics. It performs exceptionally in reducing heat and glare and harmful UVs whilst offering some insulation during the winter to retain the heat.

There are films for polycarbonate roofed conservatories as well as glass roofs; a special film must be used called Metalux Plus due to a chemical reaction between a normal window film and the plastics making it lift over time.

We ask the right questions so you get the results you want; we help you choose the right film for your needs.

There is also some science in choosing the right window film so before you rush off to the local DIY or motor factor as stick “a film” on your windows you are at risk of damaging or worst case breaking your glass completely.

Solar window films absorb as well as reflect solar energy as they work and it’s the absorption which can thermally stress your glazing causing the double glazing to fail and condense up or stress the glass so much it can break it.

You need to call the experts who will advise you on the best Conservatory Window Films for your needs but also the ones which won’t harm your glazing.

We carry out glazing surveys and follow strict manufacturer guidelines to determine which film is best for your needs but compatible with your glazing.

A window film being installed to this glassed roof is our winter heat retaining film as well as summer reflecting so you get the best of both worlds. It’s ideal for older conservatories which don’t already have Low-E glass.

Adding window film to glassed roof retaining heat in winter heat and reflects heat in the summer. It’s ideal for older conservatories too.

All our installations carry comprehensive manufacturer backed warranties of up to 12yrs but it’s very very rare that you will ever have any issue if professionally installed.

Conservatory Window Films have no maintenance or running costs and can last for quarter of a century in certain situations.

They have also been proven to be one of the fasted paying back home improvement products you can have fitted to a property; some films also have been proven to be carbon negative so for the people who have environmental concerns it means they actually save more CO2 that it actually took to manufacture and install them.

This conservatory with roof and window films now installed looks smart and is private for the users. The air conditioning is required a lot less now can cope and costs less to run. The glare is reduced to a level that it makes dining possible when the suns out.

All our window films have an SPF of 285+ and blocks 99% of harmful UVA & UVB to protect the user and their pets and have been approved by the Skin Cancer Foundation they will reduce the fading of furnishings by a minimum of 40%.

Animals love the sun as much as people and can get skin cancer too. With window films you never have to worry about having to remember to close blinds. Films protect 24/7 with 99% reduction in UVA & UVB.

If security or safety is a concern there are films to enhance that by holding broken glass together and in place by being thicker and having a stronger adhesive and when used with an edge retention system it hold the glass into the frame giving an invisible barrier protecting against burglary and accidents.

Window films are not a new fad they have been produced and developed for decades and I have a lot of happy customers who don’t know how they ever lived without them.

Half the price of quality blinds but twice the life

Window films (unless they are a frosted type) don’t offer privacy at night so a traditional window dressing. We have a range of blinds which can cater for most tastes.

Breaking down costs and based on an average film life expectancy of 18 years fitted to an average sized conservatory for approx £800 – £1200 (depending on films chosen & panel shape) that’s less than £70 per year.

There are addtional no running costs, routine servicing, extra cleaning or insect removal and you get to keep your view and it will also extend the life of your furnishing by at least 40% plus.

Window films have been proven to reduce heating and cooling bills so that £70 a year will only come down year on year as energy bills rise. They literially pay for themselves, Fact!

What’s the down side? Although solar window films can offer extra privacy during the day at night they offer none so a traditional window covering would be need if you require that.

Conservatory Window Films Overview

Window films are a way of turning an unusable conservatory or room into a usable space. They won’t chill the air like air conditioning but don’t have any running costs either. They will reduce ambient temperatures caused by solar radiation by several degrees, reduce the glare to a comfortable level, retain your view, out block UVs protecting your families and pets health and extending the life of your furnishings. They require no special cleaning and can last the life of the glazing. Window films are a totally passive protection system that can enhance your homes appearance and can protect your home from unwanted visitors by hiding valuables. Window films can make your conservatory become the place you always dreamt it would be.

A conservatory fitted with window films is a very different place to a conservatory without them or a conservatory fitted with blinds....it’s a usable place!

Several customers so impressed with the performance from their solar control window films actually discard their conservatory blinds.

Customer-Testimonials

I had the above mentioned film fitted to a v large feature window, in my sun room. The room was getting too hot to sit in comfortably, since the film has been fitted we can now use this room even in the midday sun. I couldn’t recommend this company enough. Great service from start to finish. And I even needed some help/advice months after fitting and they contacted me immediately with assistance. 5 stars!
The ordering process was excellent with Marks recommendations it has been excellent in solving the problems of heat and glare in our conservatory and we have already recommended Mark and his window films to others.
The advice Mark gave as to which film was best was excellent as was his information pack. The films have been very good at solving the problem associated with conservatories and the sun we would recommend Mark and window films and Mark to others
It has made the conservatory now liveable whereas before we couldn’t sit in it on sunny days- now its warmer in winter and just right on sunny days
It was a pleasure to have the team working at our house. The result was just as we hoped

Films types applicable for conservatories

We provide a range of films, which can be applied to existing windows. We can help you to choose the right window film for your needs:

Alternatives

An alternative are solar blinds although not as effective as a film but it’s the next best option. They can be a traditional looking blind from the inside but have a solar rejecting coating on the exterior facing surface but you would lose your view as with a traditional blind or they are offered in film or foil types which can offer a clear or semi clear view out but wouldn’t have night time privacy either.

This conservatory is fitted with a foil type blind which offer solar rejection and is semi transparent offering some views out. They are great at adding privacy and reducing internal glare too.

There is one more product which is out there we offer which is solar paint or varnish which lasts between 2 – 5 years and is applied to the exterior surfaces which is white in finish and offers a budget way of dealing with the sun we have sold it to people with curved plastic roofs and skylights where the shape would make it difficult to apply a film.

If you would like to know more about how to enhance your sunroom, conservatory or orangery we are happy to help and advise to see if there is a product to help you to regain your space on the sunny days.
